The Golden State will look a lot different next season. On Sunday afternoon, Kevin Durant made the announcement that he was headed to Brooklyn to join the Nets. Late Sunday night, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Warriors had acquired D’Angelo Russell from the Nets in a sign-and-trade for Kevin Durant. It’s a four-year, $117 million max contract for Russell, according to the report.

Finally, according to Wojnarowski, Golden State shipped Andre Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzlies.

This is a lot to unpack, and there could be some more moving parts, but here is what you need to know for now; Durant to Brooklyn, Russell to Golden State, and Iguodala to Memphis.

Kevin Durant was cooking yesterday as he scored 38 pts, including 20 points in the 1st half as the Warriors dominated the Pelicans 118-92 in Game 4 of their Western Conference semifinal series on Sunday. Warriors lead the series 3-1.

After the game, Durant’s teammate Andre Iguodala compared Durant to Jordan, and himself to Scottie Pippen.

Iguodala game is similar to Pippen’s game, but he is not on Pip’s level. In terms of Durant, he can score the ball, but he’s not Jordan.

On July 4, 2016, Kevin Durant decided to take his talents to the Warriors. On July 3, 2017, Durant decides to re-sign with the Warriors for two-years, $53 million, according to ESPN. The contract has a player option after year one of the deal. Durant can opt out after year one of the contract. If Durant does opt out, which is expected, he can get a new max contract in the summer of 2018.

According to The Mercury News, Durant will get $25 million next season, which around $9 million less than what he could have received, which is around $34 million.  By taking less money, the Warriors were able use those resources to retain Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala. 

For Durant, it’s not about the money. KD is trying to do whatever he can to keep this championship caliber roster together. He knows that Livingston and Iguodala give the team depth and versatility. 

According to ESPN, the Warriors have committed over $325M to 5 free agents so far this offseason. All 5 were on the team last season.

Kevin Durant: 2 yrs/$53m

Andre Iguodala: 3 yrs/$48m

Shaun Livingston: 3 yrs/ $24m

David West: 1 yr/$2.3m

Coming into free agency, there was some thought that Golden State could lose one or more of their key bench players. Well, Shaun Livingston and David West are reportedly returning, and now, so is Andre Iguodala. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Iguodala will be returning to Golden State on a three-year, $48 million deal. 

Iguodala, 33, does so much for the Warriors. He defends; he scores a little, and just makes the Warriors better.  

Iguodala reportedly met with the Spurs, Lakers, Kings, and Rockets, but he decided to return to Golden State. 

This is huge for the Warriors!

According to ESPN, Andre Iguodala’s first free agent meeting will be with the Spurs.  The meeting will take place in Los Angeles.

Losing Iguodala would be a blow for the Warriors. He was the NBA Finals MVP in 2015, and is a big time defender. Iguodala’s versatility and his ability to defend could be hard to replace for the Warriors.

The 33-year-old Iguodala was one of the finalist for the 2016-17 Sixth Man of the Year award.

The Spurs can two things with this move. They add the versatility of Iguodala, and deplete the Warriors. It could be a win-win for the Spurs.
