Keith Thurman on Terence Crawford: ‘He is going to have to make himself relevant at 147’

Terence Crawford is at the top of many pound-for-pound lists. Crawford, who cleaned out the 140-pound division after defeating Julius Indongo back in August, is looking to move up to 147.

The welterweight division is stacked with talent. Guys like Keith Thurman, Errol Spence Jr.,  Shawn Porter, and Danny Garcia to name a few.

At this point, the king of the welterweight division is WBC and WBA champion, Keith Thurman. Thurman unified the welterweight title after beating Danny Garcia back in March.

However, Thurman injured his right elbow which will keep him out for the rest of 2017.

Thurman will return in 2018.

If Thurman and Crawford continue to win, the two could eventually fight, but first, Thurman believes Crawford has to prove himself  at 147:

“[Terence] Crawford has whacked up a lot of people, but he hasn’t whacked up a welterweight yet. He still needs to make himself relevant in this division,” Thurman said. “He’s a 140 undisputed champion. He can come up to this weight division and fight anybody in the top 10 and he deserves that. But we are so flooded with talent he is going to have to make himself relevant at 147 before he gets his hands on us.”

With all the great names at 147, the welterweight division should be very exciting for years to come!
