Freddie Roach would pick Rigondeaux to beat Lomachenko

WBO junior lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs) is on the top of a lot of pound for pound lists. Many believe he could be the next big thing in the sport of boxing.

Lomachenko, 29, is coming off of an impressive stoppage of Miguel Marriaga earlier this month. What’s next for Lomachenko?

One guy who would like to fight him is WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs, 1 NC). Rigondeaux, 36, has been calling Lomachenko out on social media.  It’s a fight that many would like to see, and a fight that would tell us a lot about Lomachenko.

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach believes if the fight were to happen that Rigondeaux would win.

Here is what he told Fight Hub TV on Wednesday:

“Rigondeaux is one of the best defensive fighters I ever seen, and maybe his future opponent is one of the best offensive fighters I ever seen,” Roach said. “He can’t play with guys like that though; there would be no room for good.”

“I would pick Rigondeaux to win that fight,” Roach said.

Would Rigondeaux move up two weight classes to battle Lomachenko?

According to Bob Arum, Lomachenko is returning in December against Orlando Salido, who beat Lomachenko, or Rigondeaux.

Let’s hope we get Lomachenko-Rigondeaux in December!
