Report: Paul George to leave Pacers at end of 2017-18 season; Indiana looking to trade George

Paul George told the Indiana Pacers that he will opt out of his contract at the end of the 2017-18 season, and become a free agent, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.  George, who reportedly would like to play for the Lakers, told the Pacers he would leave the team in the summer of 2018, according to the report.

While George has not requested a trade, the Pacers have reached out to the Cavaliers and other teams to gauge their interest in George, according to Wojnarowski. Obviously, based off what we saw in the 2017 NBA Finals, the Cavs could use the services of George, then again, a lot of teams could use a Paul George. According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the Pacers are going to move fast in terms of trying to deal George.

Being that the Southern California native will test free agency in the summer of 2018, it becomes a gamble for any team to trade for him, especially if George has a big time interest in the Lakers. However, if a team trades for George, and he likes that situation, maybe a team could convince him to stay.

The 27-year-old George could possibly change the balance of power in the NBA, particularly if he goes to a contender.
